Homophones are the pair of words with the same sound different forms and meanings. The pronunciation (sound) of both the words is exactly the same but the written form (spelling) is different. The meanings of the words are also different.
Homo = same
Phone = sound
The words “Buy”, by, and bye pronounced the same with different meanings and spelling.
Buy– to purchase.
By– means next to.
Bye– is the short version of goodbye.

Homonyms
Homonyms are words that have the same spelling and pronunciation but
different meanings in different contexts. For example, the word
club has different meanings.
- A club is an association of people with a common interest
- A club is a heavy stick with a thick end, used as a hand weapon
- Clubs is one of the four suits in a conventional pack of playing cards.
- Club also can mean to combine.
This example shows that the meaning of words varies based on the context where we use them.
