Climate Change Group Discussion.

Observer: Good morning all. Today we will have a group discussion on a new topic. The topic given to you is ‘Climate change’ You need to discuss this in your group for 30 minutes and come to a conclusion. Today we have four participants, Suma, Farah, Ramesh, and Sebastian. Climate change has become a serious challenge in front of human beings. Today, we will have a discussion on the impact and causes of climate change. Now let us start with Suma.

Suma: Good morning, friends. In my opinion, burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests and farming livestock are increasingly influencing climate change.

Farah: Hi friends, I agree with the points that were put forward by Suma. But let me tell you the ultimate reason for climatic change. I would say that the Industrial revolution is an important reason for climate change. Since the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s, the global temperature has increased at a much faster rate. By burning fossil fuels and changing how we use the land, human activity has quickly become the leading cause of changes to our climate.

Sebastian: Good morning one and all, I agree with Suma and Farah, but let me add one more point to the ideas put forwarded by them. I would like to say that deforestation is one of the important reasons behind climatic change.

Suma: I agree with your point, Sebastián, can you explain the way how deforestation leads to climatic change?

Sebastian: Trees usually remove and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Cutting them down means that carbon dioxide builds up quicker since there are no trees to absorb it. It increases the quantity of Carbandyoxaide in the atmosphere and that leads to climatic change.

Farah: Let me add one more point to what I said in my first turn. Agriculture also has a significant role in climate change.

Sebastian: Farah, let me ask one thing. How does agriculture lead to climate change?

Farah: Agriculture also contributes to climatic change. Let me explain the same with a few words. Planting crops and rearing animals releases many greenhouse gases into the air. For example, animals produce methane, which is 30 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. The nitrous oxide used for fertilizers is ten times worse and is nearly 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide!

Now let me ask one more thing, anyone can put forward any other cause for climate change?

Suma: yes I will put forward one more cause for climate change, which is the production of cement. Producing cement is another contributor to climate change, causing 2% of our entire carbon dioxide emissions.

Observer: Today, let us stop our group discussion here. Our discussion was so informative and meaningful so far. Now let me conclude this group discussion in a few words. Burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, and farming livestock are increasingly influencing climate change. Apart from this, Agriculture and the production of cement also contribute to climate change. Ok, have a nice day.
